DNA Paternity / Maternity Test

What is DNA?

DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) is the genetic material that carries hereditary information in every cell of our body.

  • It determines traits such as height, eye colour, and even how our bodies function.
  • Each person inherits 50% of their DNA from their mother and 50% from their father.
What is DNA Paternity/Maternity Testing?

DNA relationship testing uses DNA profiles to establish a biological relationship between a child and an alleged parent.

  • Paternity testing: Confirms whether a man is the biological father of a child.
  • Maternity testing: Confirms whether a woman is the biological mother of a child.

This test can provide peace of mind in situations where parentage is uncertain. It is particularly valuable when issues related to parental rights, responsibilities, or emotional reassurance are involved.

How Does the Test Work?
  1. Sample Collection
DNA samples are collected from the mother, the child, and the alleged father.

  2. DNA Extraction & Profiling
DNA is extracted from the samples and analyzed to create a unique genetic profile for each individual.

  3. Comparison of DNA Markers
The child’s DNA profile is compared with the alleged father’s (and mother’s, if provided).

    • Since a child inherits 50% of their DNA from the father, a true biological father will match at these DNA markers.

  4. Result Analysis

    • If the child’s DNA profile matches the alleged father’s, he is confirmed to be the biological father with >99.9% probability.

    • If the child’s DNA profile does not match, the alleged father is excluded from being the biological father.

Specimen Requirements
Clinical usageComparison of DNA profiles of the Child and the Alleged Father or Alleged Mother using PCR-STR (Polymerase Chain Reaction-Short Tandem Repeat) method.
